Dijon made the stronger start and went ahead in the 19th minute when H. Vargas Ríos scored from a Paul Bellon assist. Four minutes later, Ange Lago doubled the advantage, and Dijon extended their lead again on 32 minutes as Júlio Tavares finished another assist from Bellon. Metz responded before the interval, with Pape Moussa Fall reducing the deficit in the 44th minute from a Jessy Deminguet pass.
The visitors stayed in touch, but Dijon kept control after the break and added a fourth goal in the 69th minute through Quentin Bernard. Metz kept pushing and Fall scored again in the 88th minute, this time from a Bryan Rigobert Song Bahanag assist, but it was only a late consolation.
